    The Go-Between is one of the saddest books you’ll read — and even though it was written 60 years ago, it also might be one of the most relevant ones, too. It’s about more than just one boy. It’s about the complicated relationships all of us have with our past, and the people we used to be. Maybe we let our younger selves down; maybe they’re the ones who let us down.

    “More importantly, it’s probably one of the best novels you’ll encounter. The past really is a different country, and we live with it in, at best, an uneasy peace. But on any given day, we might be at war with it.”
