Classics Book Group, Weird Tales, New Words, John Collier
Here were two human caterpillars, immobile in a cotton cocoon, awaiting the pupescence of sleep, the wings of dream.
—from John Collier’s short story “Romance Lingers Adventure Lives”, in Fancies and Goodnights, which is the Classics Book Group pick for this month at WORD Bookstore, held this Saturday. Spoiler alert: in this story two men who live four doors down from each other in a suburban development walk into each other’s home and bed and only realize the next morning (as do their wives). Also, pupescence doesn’t seem to be the OED, and we love it.
